Carolina; Ph.D. (1998), University of Alabama-Birmingham.
After four years in the full-time ministry in the US and Jamaica,
Dr. Scott Winnail has returned to university service. He brings with him a dozen
years of undergraduate and graduate teaching in the field of Public Health and
Health Promotion & Education, as well as eight years of Bible-based teaching
experience as a minister.
On the academic side, Dr. Winnail holds degrees in health
promotion & education and also public health from the Universities of Georgia
(BS Ed. 1992), South Carolina (MSPH 1994), and Alabama at Birmingham (Ph.D.
1998). He served as a faculty member at the University of Wyoming (UW), in the
area of Health Education and Public Health (1998-2005, tenured). While at UW,
Dr. Winnail worked at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas
of: teaching, design of program curricula, student advising, and direction of
masters’ projects and theses. He also served on or chaired university committees
at various levels, including in the areas of curricula, human subjects, and
faculty and dean-level search committees. Dr. Winnail’s areas of research and
publication have included: school health and coordinated school health programs,
community development, community-based needs assessment, program evaluation,
physical activity and nutrition, and parental involvement. Additionally while in
Wyoming, Dr. Winnail worked closely with the Wyoming State Departments of Health
and Education, many other state health organizations, and was also very active
both at the state and national levels in the area of school health. Dr. Winnail
has worked with curriculum development at the elementary and college, and
graduate levels and has worked nationally with the National Health Standards
development and implementation. Dr. Winnail began serving as adjunct faculty for
Living University in Fall 2008.
On the “church” side, Dr. Winnail served as a minister for eight
and a half years prior to returning to Charlotte to fill his new position. Four
years of that service were spent as a full-time minister serving in the Church
Administration Department for the Church’s international head quarters in
Charlotte, NC (14 months), as area pastor in the South Eastern US (about 3
years), and serving church congregations in Jamaica (2 years).
When asked about his new responsibilities with Living University,
Dr. Winnail replied, “I am excited by the new challenges and opportunities this
position will present. I am eager to work directly with students as well as the
Headquarters staff again and really look forward to helping build a quality
educational experience that will benefit God’s Church and His Work in the short
term and on into the future. I have learned a tremendous amount while working
with and serving God’s people in church congregations and I look forward to
bring that experience and learning, not only to the university classroom, but
also to the planning process for the future of the University. This Living
University position will be an exciting blend of my previous work in higher
education and service as minister.” |
